History

Griswold Memorial Auditorium is at 401 Hubbard Street in Allegan, Michigan, not in the city of Kalamazoo. It was built in 1929 from a $100,000 bequest by lumber baroness Marilla Griswold as a community hall, and the city owns it. The auditorium seats about 600 under a proscenium lettered with Shakespeare’s “All the world’s a stage,” and it is home to the Allegan Community Players. The building is part of the Griswold Civic Center Historic District, listed in 1987.
