History

Bell’s Eccentric Café is the brewpub at 355 E. Kalamazoo Avenue in Kalamazoo, next to the original brewery. Larry Bell opened a homebrew shop downtown in 1983 and sold the first Kalamazoo Brewing Company beer on September 19, 1985. In 1993 Bell’s opened the Eccentric Café, the first Michigan brewery taproom after a change in state law. A later renovation, reported by the brewery as a $3 million rebuild, added a beer garden, patio, and the Back Room music hall.
