Deer & Elk is the Lansing honky-tonk duo of Jeffery Gower (vocals, guitar) and Jason Lantrip (guitar, backing vocals). City Pulse reported that they started the duo in 2023 after their power-pop band the Stick Arounds slowed down; Lantrip had led Calliope and Gower had played country in the Gentleman Callers. They released the single “Big Penny,” about Lansing’s low “truck-munching” bridge, on Phonophore Records, and told the paper they had played more than 50 Lansing-area shows in that year. A full-band lineup is also available.
