History
The Down Home, 300 W. Main St. in Johnson City, is a listening room opened in 1976 by Joe “Tank” Leach and musician Ed Snodderly. WJHL interviews with the founders say they booked The Red Clay Ramblers before the room was finished and later hosted Townes Van Zandt, Guy Clark, Willie Dixon, John Lee Hooker, New Grass Revival, Lyle Lovett, Alison Krauss, the Dixie Chicks and Kenny Chesney. Snodderly has kept the all-wood room largely unchanged. It seats about 150.
