History
Hernando’s Hideaway is a roots-music bar at 3210 Old Hernando Road, just off the Elvis Presley Boulevard exit in Memphis. I Love Memphis reports that Celine Lee owns the room with her husband, country singer Dale Watson, and that the building has been a bar since at least the 1950s. Memphis-born rockabilly singer Johnny Burnette sang about a little spot called the Hideaway on his 1957 single “Rockbilly Boogie.” Lee told the blog that faces on the wall, among them B.B. King, Fats Domino, Carl Perkins, Rufus Thomas, and Elvis Presley, are people who played there, and that Watson built the stage as a musician’s room.
