Executive Surf Club

History

The club's site says a loose group of midlife locals who surfed the Gulf before and after work jokingly called themselves the Executive Surf Club, and that Water Street restaurateur Brad Lomax opened the Chaparral Street room in 1990. A marker transcribed by the Historical Marker Database says the outdoor stage has hosted the Ventures and the Dead Kennedys, that Townes Van Zandt said goodbye to the Coastal Bend from the patio, and that the club hosted the final concert of Tejano singer Isido Lopez before his death in 2004.
