History

Jim Maurer and Billy Opinsky opened Humpy’s Great Alaskan Alehouse on June 13, 1994, in a former municipal print shop at 610 W. Sixth Avenue, aiming to give downtown Anchorage a casual craft-beer house. The alehouse caught on quickly with locals and visitors and helped revive downtown nightlife. It still pours a long draft list and books local players, often with no cover, from acoustic sets to rock; visiting artists have even sat in after shows at the performing-arts center.
