Giant Sand
Tucson

Bio
Giant Sand is a band from Tucson, Arizona, built around singer-songwriter Howe Gelb. Gelb started the group as Giant Sandworms in the late 1970s; after an EP they shortened the name, and Valley of Rain came out in 1983. The sound sits in alternative country and wanders into other styles, with Gelb's beatnik-leaning vocals. Since about 2012 the larger ensemble has also been billed as Giant Giant Sand. They were photographed performing in Faenza, Italy, in 2006 and at the Tanz- und Folkfestival in Rudolstadt.
