Bio

Calexico is an indie rock band founded in Tucson, Arizona, in 1996 by Joey Burns and John Convertino, who had first played together in Giant Sand. Their records mix rock with Americana and Latin American styles, including cumbia and mariachi, from The Black Light through the 2022 album El Mirador. El Mirador was recorded at longtime bandmate Sergio Mendoza's home studio in Tucson. Burns and Convertino remain the core, with an ensemble that has included Jacob Valenzuela, Martin Wenk, Scott Colberg, and Sergio Mendoza. They have returned to Tucson for shows such as a night with the Tucson Symphony Orchestra at the Linda Ronstadt Music Hall.
