Wichita, KS

History

Kirby’s Beer Store, 3227 E. 17th Street North, beside the Wichita State campus, was marking 50 years in May 2022. The Wichita Eagle described the roughly 600-square-foot bar and a chain of owners: Kirby sold it to geology professors including John McKinley; artist Richard Davies and Mark Munzinger bought it in 1984; promoter Jake Euker booked national indie acts there. Alex Thomas, who also owns interests in the Cotillion and Barleycorn’s, later owned Kirby’s. Sources: Wichita Eagle, May 19, 2022, and March 8, 2018.
