History

At 1254 Michigan Avenue in Corktown, the room opened in 1915 and, according to longtime owner Paul "PJ" Ryder, has never closed, operating as a speakeasy disguised as a furniture store during Prohibition. Before it was renamed the Lager House in 1965 it was the Doemer Beer Garden, Doemer Brothers Tavern, and the Doemer Tavern. Live music arrived in 1991 with electronica, then shifted to garage and punk. Ryder bought the bar in October 2007 and kept it a destination for indie, garage, and punk shows.
