History
Sonia opened on March 31, 2017, at 10 Brookline Street in Central Square, in the room T.T. the Bear’s Place had used until it closed on July 25, 2015. Brothers Joseph and Nabil Sater, who own the building and the neighboring Middle East, rebuilt the roughly 320-capacity club and moved the stage to face Brookline Street. It opened all-ages while waiting on a liquor license, which arrived in January 2018 as an extension of the Middle East license. The standing-room club books rock, punk, indie, and DJ nights as part of the Middle East complex. The old T.T. stage spot became an elevated sound booth.
