History

The first House of Blues opened on November 26, 1992, in a small Harvard Square room backed by Isaac Tigrett, Dan Aykroyd, and others, and that Cambridge club closed in 2003. The Fenway club that replaced it opened in 2009 at 15 Lansdowne Street, across from Fenway Park, in a building that had housed the Avalon and Axis nightclubs and, earlier, the Boston Tea Party. The J. Geils Band played the inaugural show. Live Nation operates the hall, listed at roughly 2,200 to about 2,400 capacity, which also includes a restaurant and the Foundation Room. Hometown runs have included the Dropkick Murphys’ St. Patrick’s Day concerts and the Mighty Mighty Bosstones’ Hometown Throwdown.
