110 E Main St, Charlottesville, VA, 22902

History

Charlottesville's oldest theater, 110 E. Main Street on the Downtown Mall. Cvillepedia says the building went up in 1901 as a bank and reopened in 1912 as a vaudeville and silent-film house that hosted acts from Harry Houdini to the Three Stooges; it burned in 1915 and was rebuilt by architect C. K. Howell. Visit Charlottesville says it reopened Nov. 27, 2009 after a restoration, with two bars, a balcony, and a concert sound system.
