History

Madison Square Garden is the multi-purpose arena in Midtown Manhattan between Seventh and Eighth Avenues from 31st to 33rd Streets, built on top of Pennsylvania Station. The current building is the fourth to use the name; it opened on February 11, 1968, after the first two Gardens stood at Madison Square and a third operated from 1925 to 1968 at Eighth Avenue and 50th Street. It is home to the New York Knicks and Rangers and hosts concerts with a capacity of about 22,000. Madison Square Garden Entertainment owns the arena, which was heavily renovated between 2011 and 2013.
