History

The Beacon Theatre is a 2,894-seat entertainment venue at 2124 Broadway on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, next to the Hotel Beacon. It opened in 1929 as a movie palace developed by Samuel “Roxy” Rothafel and designed by Walter W. Ahlschlager, with Renaissance, Roman, Greek, and Rococo decoration. The auditorium and lobby are a New York City interior landmark and the building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is now a leading concert theater, long associated with residencies such as the Allman Brothers Band’s March runs.
