History
George’s Majestic Lounge, 519 W. Dickson Street in Fayetteville, Arkansas, next to the railroad tracks, calls itself the oldest and longest-running live-music club in Arkansas. George Pappas opened a restaurant, bar, and general store there in 1927. He sold it in 1947 to Mary and Joe Hinton; Mary sold it in 1987 to Bill and Betty Harrison, who had had a college date there in the late 1950s. In January 2004 the Harrisons sold the business and property to Suzie Stephens, who sold the business to Brian and Day Crowne; the Crownes bought the property in 2012 and have run it as a showcase room since 2004. Regular live shows date to the early 1970s, and the club says dances and patio music go back to the 1930s. It was the first bar in town to integrate in the late 1950s.
