The Garage

History

The Garage, a gay bar on Norfolk’s Granby Street, opened on July 4, 1986, and ran largely uninterrupted for decades. It was known as a hot spot for the leather and Levi crowd and as home bar of the Knight Hawks of Virginia, mixing dance nights with drag shows, male dancers, and fundraisers. A planned closing at the end of March 2013 was followed by word that the bar would reopen under new management.
