The Mill

History

Keith Dempster opened The Mill in 1962 as a coffeehouse called The Coffee Mill and, after a fire, moved it in 1972 to 120 E. Burlington Street, where it became a home for Iowa City folk and Americana. Players tied to the room include Greg Brown, Dave Moore, and Pieta Brown. Marty Christensen and Dan Ouverson took over in June 2003 and widened the bookings beyond blues and folk. After 17 years they stepped away in 2020, and the landmark closed.
