The Thirsty Beaver

History

Brothers Brian and Mark Wilson opened the Thirsty Beaver in 2008 at 1225 Central Ave. in Charlotte’s Plaza Midwood, leasing the one-story building from George Salem, whose family had owned the strip for decades. They wanted a neighborhood dive where one brother could bartend while the other drank. When a developer bought the surrounding land and Salem refused to sell, a large apartment complex went up in a horseshoe around the bar. It has stayed a small honky-tonk-style dive.
