Ego's

510 S Congress Ave, Austin, TX · about 120

History

Gail and Colleen Johnson bought the business in 1979 and opened Ego's, keeping the name of the previous tenant, under a parking garage at 510 South Congress. Before that the room had been the Pour Haus, where Tom Russell held a 1975 residency with pianist Patricia Hardin, and earlier Mrs. Robinson's. Pianist Bobby Doyle made it a live-music room in the early 1990s, mixing blues, pop, country, rock and roll, jazz, and gospel, and the club later booked bands such as the Bellfuries, the Derailers, and Dale Watson. It is now known for nightly karaoke.
