Dave Matthews Band
Charlottesville
Bio
Dave Matthews Band is a rock band formed in Charlottesville, Virginia, in 1991 by singer-guitarist Dave Matthews, drummer Carter Beauford, saxophonist LeRoi Moore, violinist Boyd Tinsley, and, soon after, teenage bassist Stefan Lessard. The music mixes rock, jam-band playing, jazz, and folk. The 1994 major-label debut Under the Table and Dreaming went multiplatinum, and the group has kept a heavy touring schedule on RCA and its own Bama Rags label. Matthews, Lessard, and Beauford are the remaining founders; the current lineup also includes Tim Reynolds, Rashawn Ross, Jeff Coffin, and Buddy Strong. Early Charlottesville shows included Trax nightclub and the city's Earth Day festival.
