Future Islands

Bio

Future Islands is a synth-pop band based in Baltimore. Samuel T. Herring, Gerrit Welmers, and William Cashion formed the group in Greenville, North Carolina, in 2006 and moved to Baltimore in 2008; drummer Michael Lowry later joined as a full member. Herring’s voice, moving from a croon to a shout, rides Welmers’ synthesizers and Cashion’s melodic bass on albums such as Singles (2014), The Far Field, As Long as You Are, and People Who Aren’t There Anymore. Their March 2014 performance of “Seasons (Waiting on You)” on The Late Show with David Letterman became the show’s most-watched YouTube video. In Baltimore they have played rooms such as Metro Gallery.
