Jon Muq

Bio

Jon Muq is a singer-songwriter born in Uganda and based in Austin, Texas. He grew up on the outskirts of Kampala, learned songs such as "We Are the World," and sang in a hotel lobby before a video of him playing led to a job on Norwegian Cruise Line. After settling in Austin, a cover of the Beatles' "Blackbird" reached Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys, who produced Muq's Easy Eye Sound debut, Flying Away (2024). His songs mix African and American melodies, and he has shared stages with artists including Billy Joel, Van Morrison, Norah Jones, and Mavis Staples.
