Boch Center Wang Theatre

270 Tremont St, Boston, MA · about 3,500
History
The Boch Center Wang Theatre opened on October 16, 1925, as the Metropolitan Theatre, a movie palace at 270 Tremont Street designed by Clarence Blackall for developer Max Shoolman and built with about 3,600 seats. It was renamed the Music Hall in 1962, became the nonprofit Metropolitan Center in 1980, and in 1983 took the Wang name after a gift from computer pioneer An Wang that helped fund a restoration. A 2006 corporate deal made the complex the Citi Performing Arts Center, and in 2016 it became the Boch Center while the historic auditorium kept the Wang Theatre name. The nonprofit also operates the Shubert Theatre and books theater, music, dance, and film in the restored house.
