History

The Haunt opened on Halloween 1969, when Buffalongo played a club Bob Shannon and Brian Dewart had tucked in an alley off West Green Street behind the State Theatre. Ithaca.com reported the original legal capacity under 150 and a 1997 move to Willow Avenue, overlooking Cascadilla Creek, where the room holds over 400. Under owners including Gary Bucci and later Jay Harman it booked Albert King, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Buddy Guy, the Dead Kennedys, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Faith No More, and Grandmaster Flash. (Ithaca.com, Sept. 12, 2013.)
