Sam’s Burger Joint opened in 1999 at 330 E. Grayson Street, just north of downtown, when Sam Panchevre leased two empty buildings near the Highway 281 underpass. The music room began as an un-air-conditioned metal shed and was later rebuilt with a stage, lighting, and a full sound system beside the burger counter. The hall books blues, Texas roots, rockabilly, country, Americana, soul, and indie rock, and it has hosted Gary Clark Jr., Sturgill Simpson, Leon Bridges, and Jason Isbell. Comedy nights and swing dances share the calendar.
