Bikini Lounge opened in 1947 at 1502 Grand Avenue, then the Phoenix end of U.S. 60, as a tiki bar for travelers coming in from Los Angeles. Much of the dark, windowless Polynesian decor is said to date from the opening. Matt Tomb, who grew up nearby and had been a regular, bought the cash-only bar about fifteen years before a 2025 profile, determined not to let it be turned into something else.
