Johnny Vaughan, born and raised in Dublin, opened Vaughan’s Public House on Pratt Street in July 2004 after Central Connecticut State recruited him to play soccer. He furnished the room from Ireland, down to the wood floor and a mahogany bar, and hung a mural by Paul Joyce, great-grandson of James Joyce, that includes Vaughan’s grandfathers. Manager Iris McNamara, from Limerick, has been there since opening. The pub serves Irish food, including a weekend mixed grill, in a room built to feel like a Dublin public house.
